Time to Replace?

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

My mother cracks me up sometimes.  She’s been using a screw driver to turn on/off the kitchen sink.  The knob has stripped away from the screw that actually turns the water on and off.  I told her that there are lots of kitchen faucets to choose from out there. She just needs to go look.  But, it is time for change.  When you need tools in the kitchen to get a simple glass of water, something is wrong.  If she had fixed the sink before it had become so bad, she could have avoided the whole situation.

Extra Room

Friday, September 28th, 2007

I’ve decided that I jipped myself on room selection in our house.  We all picked our own rooms and luckily didn’t have anybody wanting the same one.  I picked my room because I liked the layout of it.  However, now that I have my stuff in it, it seems tiny.  The bed alone seems to crowd the room.  A friend of mine suggested modern platform beds.  It is sleek and stylish and takes up half the room.  My bed doesn’t seem to over power the room any more.

Camping!

Friday, September 28th, 2007

My sister is really into camping.  It seems like every other weekend she is out in the wilderness.  I, however, am not an outdoors girl.  I like nature, but I don’t want to sleep on rocks.  So, for a sisterly weekend, we’ll compromise.  Pigeon Forge cabin rental is just what we were looking for.  It’s beautiful and away from stress.  But, it’s also homey and sheltered.  We can hike during the day, and relax by a fire at night.  Now that is my kind of camping. : )

Drug/Alcohol Addictions

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

I just found out that another one of my friends is not going to be coming back to college this semester.  He has become an alcoholic.  It’s weird that I had no idea.  He seemed like such a different person in class and around campus.  I guess he had to go to a drug treatment center.  I’m just glad that he is getting help now so that he can come back and finish up his degree.

Christmas in September

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

I know it’s only September, but I am already thinking about Christmas.  It seems like every year I am down to the wire on getting gifts.  It’s not because I put it off either.  I just can’t come up with any christmas gift ideas and the like.  I feel bad that I put something together last second and things are sold out.  This year I it is my goal to get ideas for people before the November sales.  I want to get everything together this year.

Insurance

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

My co-worker at the library is really going through a really tough time right now.  I feel bad about it.  Not only does her family member have cancer, she couldn’t find insurance for a long time.  Now they have crazy bills that they have to try to cover.  If they had known about high risk life insurance sooner, it might not have been so bad.  High risk life insurance is for people that either participate in high risk activities or have a health condition that is hard to insure.  What is the point of health insurance if when you need it, they drop you or add steep fees?  I suggest looking into other options.

Real Food

Friday, September 21st, 2007

I’ve noticed that a lot of my stuff is hand-me-downs.  I don’t think that there is wrong with that, except for the case of my microwave.  As a college student, this is essential for a lot meals. I sick meals that are burnt on one side and frozen on the other.  I need a good  microwave ovens.  I want one that when I’m done, I’ll have a meal that I actually want to eat.  If I can’t have a home cook meal, I want one that is at least edible.

Miss it when it’s gone…

You know what is really random that no one thinks about getting, but is really useful to have? Unless you or someone close to you works with their hands, in construction, and the like, you probably don’t have  box cutters.  I think box cutters are great.  Besides the typical work use, my roommate has used them for opening packages, school projects, and cutting anything that scissors won’t.  Now that I don’t live her anymore, I’m more and more uses….because I don’t have them anymore.  : (

Brighten Things Up

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

As I’ve mentioned in previous blogs, I’m living in a house with two other roommates this year.  It’s looking a lot better then when we first moved that’s for sure.  However, I think it would look a lot better if it had goodlighting.  As it sits, the house in in between a bigger house and an apartment building.  They sit so close together that we get very little natural light. If we had better lighting through out the house, it would definitely cheer things up a bit.

Men + Toys

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

I was watching an episode of some show on tv with Jim Belushi the other day.  In the episode, Jim is playing with these slot cars and it got me thinking.  It’s amazing how men never grow out of toys like that.  You may buy them for your children, but let’s face it…older men play with toys too.  I think slot cars are one of those timeless toys that people will always play with no matter what age.  If you buy one, you’ll definately get your money’s worth.
