Live for another Day

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

I have a friend in college that is kind of an inspiration to me.  He had cancer when he was younger and survived.  He’s a little older than most people in college, but that’s because he was set back a couple years because of the cancer.  I will say that  there is one thing that surprises me about him.  He is deathly allergic to a LOT of things.  What I don’t understand is why he doesn’t wear some form of medical id.  I think it’s a risk I wouldn’t want to take.  It would be awful to survive cancer just to die from an allergy.  There are so many unnecessary  deaths each year that could have been prevented.  I just don’t understand it.

Secure internet

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

I am sitting here chatting on the net and all I can think about is my MIS class that I had last semester.  We had a police officer come in and talk about how they are fighting internet crimes.  I never realized how easy it is for people to hack in and get all of your information.  All I know is that if you’re going to do any kind of transaction or business online make sure it’s safe.  Get on a site like authorize.net and make sure your information is secure.

I want it all

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

I really dislike big companies that are only about making money.  Especially, companies that make things that can change people’s lives.  For example, I want pharmaceutical companies that care about people. After all,  they develop pain relievers, treatments for diseases, and so on.  Would I want a company that cares about the people it’s treating or the money it’s making?  I may be an idealist, but I want it all.  A company that has the new technology and the caring mentality.  But, hey, that’s just me.

Going, Going, Gone!

Can you believe some of these rates on mortgages?  My fiance said that at his credit union, they are offering mortgages at 5%, which is amazing.  We were going to wait to look at houses and such for a while, but the time to find mortgage lenders really is right now.  Who knows how long these rates will be around?  I don’t want to wait around for them to go back up, that’s for sure.

My Ex-Landlord

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

My ex-landlord is actually a really good guy.  In the ten years that he’s rented houses, he has only kept part of one person’s safety deposit (and that was because they broke a window).  Apparently this year, he had someone steal one of his routers.  And, if you don’t know, they are expensive to replace.  I told him to look into used cisco routers.  It’s a good source for pre-owned items that you know are worth it.

Party Time

Monday, June 16th, 2008

My sister cracks me up.  She is going to be my maid of honor and wants my bridal shower and bachelorette parties to be the best.  She sent me a web link to start looking at party invitations.  She thinks that if we get that date out there for people to put on their calendars, they’ll be more likely to show up.  Also, if they get a formal invitation versus word of the mouth, they’ll feel like it’s more important and special.  I can’t say I disagree with her.  I just hadn’t thought about all of this yet. : )

I’m Engaged!!!

Monday, June 16th, 2008

This last Saturday, June 14, 2008, my boyfriend proposed to me!  We had a wonderful evening with dinner at a fancy restaurant and a carriage ride around St. Louis.  My sister even came down and celebrated with us a little.  She’s so funny trying to help me plan stuff already.  I’m not even thinking about that yet.  However, I am thinking I want to look my best for my wedding.  After all, you only get one! I have a co-worker who is also engaged, and his fiance is using Phentermine help her lose some weight.  I’m thinking it might not be a bad idea considering a honey-moon, on a sandy beach, in a bathing suite would be a lot better if I felt confident in the way I look!

My oh My!

Let me start off saying that I love my internship.  However, right now, I’m working with over 200 tables of data, about 100 excel sheets with 20 tabs of info each, and what feels like a million graphs.  It is a lot of stuff to process.  All I can say is, that the computer I’m using at work has a TON of dell memory.  On my computer, I feel like I have to delete music and pictures every week to make room for the new stuff.  Apparently, I’ve been doing things all wrong!

I’m Leavin on a Jet Plane…

Okay, if you follow my blog at all, you know I’m still in college.  Do college kids have money? No.  I am no exception to that rule.  However, what I do have is family all over this country.  I have a brother in CO, one in NC, grandparents in FL, and so on.  What I need to find are some cheap flights.  After all, I love my family and want to see them as much as possible.  And with gas prices, driving is out of the question.  : P
